P1020977_webWe run a New Shooter safety orientation before each match. New shooters (those who have not shot at the DRR range) should arrive as early as possible. Cold Range – no carrying loaded weapons except on firing line. All loads loaded to SASS specs.

Dropped guns:

Empty gun = Stage DQ
Loaded gun = Match DQ
Eye and hearing protection must be worn in shooting area

Muzzle direction:

  1. Always down range
  2. To and from shooting line
  3. Loading and unloading tables
  4. Cross draw dance
  5. One person loading at a time: No one loads or unloads without someone there, stay at unloading table unload the next person

(Step towards targets with your left foot, twisting your hips and pointing cross draw holster down range. Draw gun keeping the barrel pointing down range and then get into your shooting stance. Repeat dance to place your gun back into the holster.)

For your safety and the safety of others around you:

  • Leave loaded weapons on the table until called
  • Leave a clear path for shooters to get to firing line
  • Timer not to count misses, watch the shooter
  • Down range – all guns at rest until all clear given
  • A dropped round is a dead round
  • Counters come up when called
  • Everyone pitch in
  • Everyone is a safety officer
  • Drink lots of water

IF IT’S A HIT IT’S A HIT,
IF YOU THINK IT’S A HIT IT’S A HIT,
IF YOU THINK IT’S A MISS IT’S A HIT,
IF IT’S A MISS IT’S A MISS
